Flowers N' More
6701 W 120th Ave, Broomfield, CO 80020
While the adage is true, a person will walk a mile to
complain about the wrong doings they’ve encountered before they walk 100ft to
say “thank you, great job.” Few things
make me cringe worse than writing a poor review about a small business. One of those things that can surpass the
above listed stomach churning sensation is a small business owner who makes
writing a negative review so easy. A
couple of days ago I ordered some flowers for a friend who was having a really
rough week. I called Flowers ‘N More and
explained to the gal who answered the phone that I wanted to send a bouquet to
cheer up a friend. After selecting an
arrangement I provided my credit card number and was told the total charges
would be $49.97. I asked her once again
how much the total would be including delivery and taxes. She replied $49.97. Upon seeing my debit card statement the
following day I noticed that Flowers ‘N More charged me $73.28. The following morning I called them to
discuss the discrepancy regarding how much they had charged me and was greeted
with one of the most incredibly ridiculous phone conversations I’ve had this
year. I politely explained to the woman
who answered my call that there might have been a mistake with my order because
I was billed a different amount than what I was told the final price tag would
be. The woman immediately became irate
and told me I was incorrect. With the
conversation going nowhere besides her tone escalating I asked if there was a
manager I could speak with, she agreed and moments later I had the pleasure of
speaking with “Bill” the owner. I calmly
explained the situation to Bill and let him know that there might have been a
miscommunication during my order.
Immediately he became defensive and told me that his daughter who had
initially taken my order “doesn’t make mistakes” and “when have you bought
something where you didn’t have to pay taxes?”
I responded “Bill, I understand how taxes work bud, and I understand
that you need to charge a delivery fee, which is why I thought $49.97 was the
final price.” He responded back stating
that they have a standard arrangement fee, with taxes, and the delivery fee is
how they came up with $73.28. I told him
that I wanted a refund for $23.31 the amount that was never disclosed during my
conversation while placing my order.
Here comes my favorite part… Bill said “Tell you what, we can go recover
the bouquet and give you a refund for the flowers, how would you like
that?” I laughed and said “you’ve got to
be kidding me Bill, that’s your solution to make things right here?” He
responded back “you just wanna take money from a small family business, real
nice ethics; you know what, I bet you can’t even spell the word ethics!” I continued laughing at the ridiculousness of
the situation and said “I just want a refund for the $23 you charged me without
disclosing, that’s all.” Bill explained
that he refuses to refund $23 but would refund $12.95 as he continued to berate
me saying “well you won this one, hope you feel really good about ripping off a
small business.” He hung up on me and that’s where it ended. Hours later I tried to call him back to ask
“are you sure this is how you want to go about handling this transaction?” Before
having the chance to ask that question he again hung up on me. Way to go Bill, you’re the best!
